Be Kind

(That's It)

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Not a very kind thing to say, I know. But I’ll still adhere to the message and keep this one short and sweet.

Be Kind.

Today.

Being kind starts with taking your eyes off yourself and your problems. Be aware of other people and simply try to make a difference in their day. You don’t have to buy them a car or rescue their cat from a tree. Just simply be kind to people. Pause for a split-second and be thoughtful with your reply to, “How you doing?”. Or, better yet, when YOU ask someone, “How you doing?”, ask them again, “No, really, how are you doing?” You probably are not very interested in that person, honestly, but that is my point. Be kind. The 45 second conversation just might make their day.

Recently at church, a young woman spoke of how this very thing made such a difference in her own mental health. She took her eyes of herself and reached out to others, and the act ended up coming full circle and benefiting her.

This guy, of all people, said this mentality made all the difference for him as he sat in a Romanian jail. “You get what you give,” he said. I’m not sure what version he read, but that sure sounds like Jesus.

When people around you want you to take low road instead of the high road, don’t give in to them. Instead, be a decent human being. Be kind.

I recently saw a statistic that said the percentage of single-inhabitant households has skyrocketed in the last couple of decades. People are lonely. People are unhappy. There are a million reasons why.

But you could be the reason they smile and don’t feel alone today.

So go ahead, make someone’s day.

You might just make yours, as well.
